The Field of Mars (in Russian — Marsovo Pole) — area in the center of Sankt-Petersburg named in the name of ancient Roman god of war. Square with the same name is in many cities of the world. In Paris, fo example. Traditionally, this was the place for building troops and burial great warriors.
