House of the Zinger Company
House of the Zinger Company, also well-known, like «House of the Book», one of the most popular landmarks of Northern Russian capital. He situated on the Nevsky Prospect right across Kazan Cathedral.
In the St. Petersburg, we have many legends about this building.
One of them tell us, that «House of the Book» was planning like a skyscraper. All because he looks similar to another well-known building: Singer Building in New York. However, it is no true. At first, because swamp ground. At second, when House were built, here not allowed make buildings higher than Winter Palace — residential of Russian emperors.
However, we have some interesting facts. During Second World War, here on the first floor was situated embassy of United States. Now, on the higher floor is situated office of VKontakte Company. It is Russian analog Facebook.
